Blue Star 20/20: Gateway to the Mission Reach
Over the last 25 years, Blue Star Contemporary Art Center has evolved from a grassroots event conceived by local artists into the first and longest-running venue for contemporary art in San Antonio. Now, with expansion plans underway, we are poised to play an even more critical role as we continue to grow, instigating positive change in the arts community and the community at large.
Please join us at Blue Star on Monday, May 2 from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. for a public discussion focusing on the future of the agency and the complex. The evening will start with an open house in the main gallery from 5:30 to 6:00 p.m., followed by a facilitated discussion among small groups focusing on topics related to the expansion of the mission and reach of the non-profit Blue Star Contemporary Art Center. We will be joined by James Lifshutz to discuss the physical expansion of the arts complex onto the Big Tex site next door.
Among the topics to be discussed in small groups are:
•The programs and services of the Blue Star Contemporary Art Center currently being delivered to the public - what works, what doesn't;
•Programs and services that BSCAC should provide in the future - help us dream;
•What can this mean for the surrounding neighborhood, for the Mission Reach of the River, and the community at large?
•What other uses can or should be incorporated into an enlarged complex?
As the only cultural institution on the Mission Reach, and with the possibility of future expansion, we stand firm in our commitment to inspire the creative genius in everyone and we look forward to having you join this discussion on May 2.
