Casa Chuck Panel Discussion
On behalf of Casa Chuck, we invite you to attend a panel discussion on alternative and artist run spaces with the inaugural resident of the Casa Chuck Arts Residency Program, Barbara Perea on Wednesday September 26th at Blue Star Contemporary Art Center.
Perea is a Mexico City-based curator, critic and lecturer with a concentration in emerging media, sound and video art. In collaboration with curator Mariana David, she organized the international residency program David/Perea in 2001, which included artists Pawel Althamer, David Castro, Jorge Macchi and Artur Zmijewski, and produced two major artworks by Santiago Sierra.
In addition to her curatorial work and critical writing practice, Ms. Perea is currently researching the history and impact of alternative and artist-run spaces in Mexico City; specifically, how and what alternative art venues contribute to the creative legacy and tenor of a city. During her residency at Casa Chuck, she would like to experience the local parallels that San Antonio has to offer.
Casa Chuck is an invitational program for contemporary critics and curators located in Chuck Ramirez' former abode, next door to Sala Diaz. As a programmatic extension of Sala Diaz, Casa Chuck hosts two month-long residencies per year, provides short-term housing for visiting artists and professionals in the contemporary art field and serves as a meeting place for local arts organizations.
Joining Barbara on the panel will be a few representatives of San Antonio's artist-run, alternative arts spaces. We invite you to attend this crucial and timely dialogue and to contribute to the conversion of the past, present and future of artist-run, alternative arts spaces in San Antonio.
Seating is limited so please RSVP to Brittany Parker, Program Assistant, at brittany@bluestarart.org or 210-227-6960.Blue Star Contemporary Art Museum
