SEMMES LIBRARY EXHIBITS AND EVENTS
As a part of a neighborhood arts outreach and education effort, Blue Star programs a satellite exhibition space at the Julia Laura Yates Semmes Library in City Council District 10’s northeast suburban neighborhood, in which arts and culture opportunities are underserved. At this location, beautifully sited at the foot of Comanche Lookout Park, we install every three months a new exhibition by a local or regional professional artist, accompanied by a workshop and/or lecture by the exhibiting artist for the community. We encourage you to visit the Semmes Library to experience our artists and participate in the enrichment events.
STONEMETAL PRESS
Blue Star collaborates with local non-profit organization Stonemetal Press in a number of projects. One such project was created during the Luminarias city-wide Arts Festival: MOSAIC students led by ARTsmart Studio manager Alex Rubio designed and executed, by use of a router saw, a 4X8 ft. woodcut on plywood, which was subsequently pressed onto archival-quality paper by a steamroller during operated by Stonemetal Press.
BUSINESS OF ART SEMINARS
Partnering with community organizations and area universities, we host “Business of Art” seminars bringing professional artists and aspiring art professionals together to allow aspiring artists to obtain career advice from more established art professionals. Participants can take advantage of the presenting artist’s personal career experiences and unique perspective.
