BASIC LOOMING

Wednesday, July 9, 2014
9am–12pm

Contemporary at Blue Star welcomes young artists, ages ranging from 3rd-5th grade, for the Basic Looming Youth Art Workshop. We are a little flexible on age. If your child is going into 3rd or 6th they are welcome to participate. In response to Gabriel Dawe’s Plexus no.26installation, currently on exhibition in our Project Space, students will learn to make their own loom and design a unique piece. Durning the workshop kids will be instructed by a local artist and learn about a simple method for looming along with some of the medium’s history. Students will explore looming with yarn and how the practice can be found in everyday things that surround them. Gabriel Dawe’s Plexus no.26 installation is composed of hundreds of yards and string and supported by nearly 500 hooks mounted to the gallery walls. Participants must register to reserve their spot. Snacks will be provided. Questions, call 210.227.6960 or email jack@bluestarart.org
